Paper

Tereos Starch & Sweeteners's range of starch based solutions for the paper industry comprises native, modified and calibrated starches, that are obtained from wheat, maize and potato raw materials.

Tereos Starch & Sweeteners’s range of native and modified starches can be used in different paper products such as printing and writing paper, board, light weight coated paper (LWC), glassine paper and wallpaper.

Other starch derivatives, such as dextrose produced from maize can be used for glassine.

Starch is the best way to increase paper’s dry strength and to improve surface condition, printability and processing at a low cost. Adding starch in the size press increases strength, whilst considerably improving smoothness. In paper coating, starch provides good water retention to the coating colour which leads to improved machinability. Starch, and particularly modified starch, can also be used to reduce the total cost of coating formulations by replacing part of the latex.

Meritena® and Amyzet® native starches are designed to ensure an optimal enzyme conversion. Amyzet® calibrated starch has a spherical shape and a typical uniform granular size, which makes it particularly suitable as a stilt material for coating in carbonless copy paper production.

We also offer Meritol® liquid sorbitol for surface sizing and coating. Sorbitol acts as a plasticiser and moisture regulator in fine paper grades.
