Acquisition of a maize starch plant in China with Wilmar

26 / 04 / 2013

The partnership based on the development of starch activities in China with the Wilmar Group, expands with the acquisition of a maize starch plant in Tieling.

In 2011, Tereos Starch & Sweeteners and Wilmar, a leading player in processing agricultural products in Asia, finalised a partnership to develop a starch business in China. The realisation of this partnership came from the construction of a wheat starch plant in Dongguan, near Canton. Operation will start in 2014 with starch, glucose syrups and gluten production. Today, this partnership with Wilmar is expanding into a new raw material: maize. Tereos announced a stake in a maize starch plant owned by Wilmar. The plant, which is located in north China (Liaoning Province), is owned 51% by Wilmar and 49% by Tereos in compliance with the shareholders’ agreement signed in this Chinese market.
