Tereos Starch & Sweeteners, for an open innovation

Innovation teams are supported by a network of Universities and Technical Institutes which allow Tereos Starch & Sweeteners to stay at the forefront of technological and product innovation. Tereos Starch & Sweeteners encourages the development of expertise and resources through a structured network of external partners based throughout Europe (France, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland ...) in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry and chemical engineering. For example, Tereos Starch & Sweeteners leads several clinical and animal studies with universities and industries to improve the nutritional benefits of products that feed humans and animals.

Tereos Starch & Sweeteners participates in several consortium projects (including IMPROVE, Biocore, Futurol, ProBio3, Pentoval ...) that represent a total of approximately €200 million. Although complementary, these projects contribute to the same objective: to develop the concept of bio refinery.
The IMPROVE project, led by Tereos Starch & Sweeteners and launched in March 2011, provides a shared platform for the development of vegetable proteins. It aims for the extraction, purification and functionalization of vegetable proteins from agricultural raw materials dedicated to traditional sectors (food and feed) as an alternative to imported animal proteins. The objective is also to develop new sectors of proteins’ valorisation such as bio materials and cosmetics. The project, supported by the “pôle de compétitivité IAR” and the Picardy region, brings together major French players in the agricultural processing and research fields.
